The Home

Fort Thomas rarely gets a new house. This is one.

Fort Thomas has been built out for generations. Its streets are lined with mature trees and homes that have stood for a hundred years, and when a lot opens up for something new, it doesn’t stay open long. 100 Grand Avenue is a four-bedroom house built from the ground up in the middle of all that, and it will be ready in December.

The main floor opens from the great room to the dining area and a kitchen built around a large island, with a wet butler’s pantry, a separate pantry closet and a mud room off the garage. The butler’s pantry, with its bar sink, makes an easy coffee station in the morning and a bar when you’re entertaining. Upstairs are four bedrooms, including a primary suite with a double vanity, walk-in shower and walk-in closet, and the laundry is on the same floor. The lower level adds about 650 finished square feet and a full bath.

You get the character of an old town without the renovation list that usually comes with an old house.

Fort Thomas

Historic town. Top schools. 15 minutes to downtown Cincinnati.

Fort Thomas grew up around a U.S. Army post established in 1887 and named for Gen. George H. Thomas, the Union general known as the Rock of Chickamauga. The post’s limestone water tower still stands at the entrance to Tower Park, flanked by cannons brought home from Havana after the Spanish-American War.

Today it’s a walkable town of about 17,000, with its own nationally recognized, award-winning school district, Fort Thomas Independent Schools, and a local bourbon, General Thomas Kentucky Bourbon, that carries the general’s name. Downtown Cincinnati is about fifteen minutes away.

From 100 Grand Avenue it’s about a 5-minute walk (0.3 miles) to The Highland Plaza, home to a local restaurant, shops and offices; about 15 minutes (0.7 miles) to Ruth Moyer Elementary; and about 20 minutes (1 mile) to the Fort Thomas Central Business District, including Fort Thomas Coffee.
